Gene Joseph B.A., MLS.

Gene Joseph has nearly three decades of experience in special library development and management, specializing in microcomputer based collections. Former Head Librarian of the Xwi7xwa Library (First Nations House of Learning Library) at the University of British Columbia, her area of subject expertise is First Nations' affairs. The British Columbia Library Association, First Nations Interest Group, and the University of British Columbia have endowed a scholarship in Gene's honour for a First Nations' graduate student at School of Library, Archival and Information Studies.

Most recently Gene served as White Raven Law's Director of Research and Litigation Support for the Haida Aboriginal Title Case. Prior to that she provided Research and Litigation Support for the Haida Aboriginal Title for Environmental-Aboriginal Guardianship through Law and Education (EAGLE).

One of Gene's major career highlights was the development of a legal research library using micro and network computer systems for the appellants' in the Delgamuukw et al v. the Queen et al land claims court case for the Office of the Hereditary Chiefs of the Gitksan and Wet'suwet'en. It was one of the largest court cases held in Canada, as well as one of the first to extensively use computer systems in and out of the courtroom.

She received a B.A. in History from the University of British Columbia in 1978 and a Masters of Library Sciences (MLS) from the same institution in 1982.
